The Bird
by: Ethan and Breeana

It was Breeana's birthday, and she got a lot of different gifts like dolls, clothes, games, and music. But Breeana's mom gave her the gift that she wanted more than anything else: a beautiful blue canary in a pretty white birdcage.
The cage was made out of wire and scrolling metal flowers. Inside the cage was a wooden swing, a place for bird seed, and a watering pan. Breeana was so excited to have her very own bird that she ran around the house laughing and screaming.
Her mother said, "Remember, taking care of another living thing is a lot of responsibility. You must always remember to feed your bird and keep the cage clean. Where do you want to put the cage?
"I am going to put it in my room by the window," Breeana said. "She can sing to the other birds outside and see the world through my window."
She got some seed, put it into the dish, and set newspaper clipping into the bottom of the cage. She opened the cage door and placed the bird inside of the cage allowing it to grab onto the wires of the cage. The bird chirped happily and hopped from wire to wire, flower to flower until finally flying onto the wooden swing. Breeana ran into the living room to get her mother to come see the bird.
"Mother, come see! Come see! Polly loves her new home!" she cried.
Her mother walked into the room and saw the bird chirping happily out of the window to the birds outside. "Oh! This is wonderful! She seems very happy, Breeana!"
"No," she said. "I am going to have to get her a playmate."
Breeana took good care of the bird and showed that she was very responsible. After three months, she had proven herself as a good pet owner and her mom bought her another bird.
Now in the evenings their house is filled with the beautiful song of their sweet canaries, Polly and Patty.
